Black Cay

Another Great day with good strong winds as we headed back towards Georgetown. The plan was to make it to Georgetown early today to pick up Jay’s brother Karl. On the sail down we got the news that Karl’s flight had been cancelled and he’s stuck in Atlanta for the night, not due in until tomorrow afternoon. At the time we were about 15 miles north of Georgetown, a section of the Exumas where there is no interior sailing as the waters are too shallow for Katoomba’s draft. Instead of sitting in the waters of Georgetown for a day, we turned around and headed back north to the first cut into the deeper interior waters and settled on the west side of Black Key for the night.

We got in early, not much to do so we set out on the dinghy to check out Black Cay. Black Cay was a very small, uninhabited island, with a very small beach on each side. There was an old road with construction blocks, an old trailer full of rebar, and a half built foundation at the top of the island. The rust on the dilapidated trailer and rebar suggested this island house project had been cancelled decades ago. Snorkeling was not good, and the island so small there wasn’t really a hike to build into the afternoon, so we dinghied back to Katoomba and read books and a little blogging to close out the day.
