Stocking Island: Day 1

On Sunday the Navionics weather channel was giving predictions of high winds and rain for the day. We decided not to venture North and instead spend the day anchored on the west side of Stocking Island and take a hike to the obelisk on it’s North end.

There is a legendary bar and restaurant called the “Chat n’ Chill” on the west side of Stocking Island. Seems everyone goes there at least once when visiting the area. We had heard over the radio on the morning boaters channel that every Sunday the Chat n’ Chill had a “Pig Roast”. Since we were passing it on the way back to Katoomba, and we had yet to go there, we decided to take our chances and experience their pig roast dinner.

I did find a James Madison shirt at the back end of the bar, which was Jay and Gaye’s alma mater, and where they met. I didn’t find any Oregon duck shirts, except the one I was wearing. I’m was too fond of mine to leave it at the Chat n’ Chill.

The pig roast dinner was very good. The actual pig roast we did not see. We asked the server, an old Bahamian man, where they roasted the pig, and were informed they no longer did it in view of customers, as too many kids started crying at the sight of the poor pig roasting and as a result too many people wouldn’t buy the dinner. He just shook his head in bewilderment and said, “Where do they think their pork chops come from?”
